Anne Arundel County Watershed Stewards Academy | Restoring Local Waterways WSA envisions every community in Anne Arundel County actively engaged to ensure a healthy environment for all. Our mission is to Train and mobilize community leaders to drive change for sustainable landscapes and clean waters. What is a steward? The NY Master Watershed Steward (MWS) program empowers watershed professionals and volunteers to be leaders in their communities and to promote healthy watersheds through increased awareness, understanding, and knowledge about the function of watersheds, potential impairments, and watershed protection strategies. The Master Watershed Steward program was created by Penn State Extension to “educate and empower volunteers” to work in the community to educate and advocate for environmental conservation. Watershed Stewards can do a lot of things, such as lead cleanups, conduct water sampling, and organize and lead educational workshops. Master Watershed Stewards engage in projects such as organizing and leading stream cleanups, helping to install riparian buffers, rain gardens or pollinator meadows, leading rain barrel workshops for homeowners, educating school students about watersheds, engaging in water quality monitoring, writing newsletter articles, or conducting research The master watershed steward program hopes to train more volunteers to protect this vital natural resource.

Indiana Master Watershed Steward Program We provide education that covers the basics of maintaining and enhancing water resources. The program is open to all Indiana residents, especially those who live, work, or play in the coastal counties of Lake, Porter, and LaPorte.

Master Watershed Stewards complete a 12-week training program that pulls together information from scientists, researchers, and watershed management professionals. Topics will include how watersheds function, what factors affect watershed health, how water is managed for human use, and how volunteers can play a part in promoting watershed health and appreciation.
